The Yankees won the final game of the Subway Series on Sunday, beating the Mets 2–0 behind six scoreless innings from Cam Schlittler. The victory reduced the Yankees’ magic number for clinching a postseason place to one.
Ben Rice opened the scoring with a leadoff home run, and Austin Wells added a solo homer in the third inning. Those were the only runs the Yankees needed. Schlittler allowed just one hit—Brett Baty’s fifth-inning double—while striking out eight batters and walking two.
Mets starter Christian Scott held the Yankees to three hits across six innings, but both home runs came against him. The Yankees’ bullpen protected the lead over the final three innings, with David Bednar recording the save.
The result gave the Yankees their 18th win in 26 games and brought them to the brink of securing a playoff spot.
