New York City is getting a break from the recent stretch of unsettled summer weather on Wednesday, August 12, with generally brighter conditions expected before the chance of thunderstorms increases again on Thursday.
According to CBS New York’s First Alert Weather team, Wednesday will feature mostly sunny skies with a forecast temperature around 85°F (29°C) and only a slight possibility of an isolated shower.
The relatively quiet conditions offer New Yorkers a more favorable window for outdoor activities following periods of intense summer heat and thunderstorms across the Tri-State Area earlier in the week.
The calmer pattern, however, may be short-lived. Forecasters are monitoring an increased chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday, when warmer and more unstable conditions are expected to return to the region.
CBS New York meteorologist Lonnie Quinn said the probability of showers and storms will be greater Thursday afternoon before conditions begin improving again heading toward the weekend.
For residents planning outdoor activities, Wednesday therefore represents the more favorable of the next two days, while those with plans Thursday afternoon should keep an eye on updated forecasts and be prepared for potentially changing weather conditions.
Looking beyond Thursday, the outlook becomes more encouraging, with drier and more comfortable weather expected to settle into the New York area toward the weekend.
