A man and a woman have died following a shooting inside a Staten Island home, with New York City police investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide connected to a domestic dispute, according to law-enforcement sources.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, at a residence at 14 Garth Court, within the NYPD’s 122nd Precinct. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found two people suffering from gunshot wounds inside the property.
Police identified the woman as Dana Foley, 39, who had suffered a gunshot wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, identified as Dakota Suckstorff, 27, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Staten Island University Hospital, where he later died.
Law-enforcement sources said Foley and Suckstorff were in a relationship, and authorities have classified the shooting as a domestic incident. Investigators are examining whether the deaths resulted from a murder-suicide, although police have not publicly established exactly what happened inside the home.
Crucially, authorities have not publicly confirmed who fired the shots, and the circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear. Police have also not disclosed what may have triggered the incident.
NYPD officers remained at Garth Court following the shooting as investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence. The incident occurred in a residential cul-de-sac on Staten Island and prompted a significant police response.
No arrests had been announced in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Detectives are continuing to reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths and determine whether the evidence supports the initial suspicion of a murder-suicide.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released a final determination regarding responsibility for the two deaths.
