New York police have released images of a man sought in connection with a reported sexual assault at knifepoint in Central Park, asking the public for help identifying him.
The photographs were released Monday night following the attack on Saturday, October 24. Police said a 39-year-old woman was approached by a man carrying a knife near the park’s eastern edge before being sexually assaulted in a wooded area. She was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Authorities placed the incident near East 67th Street and Fifth Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. The suspect fled after the assault, and no arrest had been announced in the latest reports available Tuesday morning.
The man was described as wearing a black hooded top and black pants and carrying a black backpack. Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes him or has information about the incident to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers service.
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman did not know the attacker, according to reporting citing law-enforcement sources. His identity has not been publicly confirmed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
