A 23-year-old woman has died and a baby remains in critical condition after an apparent fall from a Bronx apartment building early Tuesday. Police are investigating the circumstances and have not determined whether criminal activity was involved.
Officers responded to 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton neighborhood at approximately 3:38 a.m. They discovered the woman and child outside the residential building with injuries that appeared consistent with a fall from an elevated position, according to police accounts reported by News 12.
The child was taken to hospital in critical condition. Authorities had not publicly identified the victims, and their relationship remained unclear in the initial reports.
ABC7 reported that a witness told investigators the woman and baby had been thrown from a balcony. Police have not confirmed that allegation. Detectives were gathering witness statements and looking for surveillance footage to establish what happened.
No arrests had been announced at the time of the latest available reporting. The investigation remains ongoing, with the cause and circumstances of the fall still unresolved.
