New York City subway riders are being advised to plan ahead this weekend as maintenance and infrastructure work brings service changes across parts of the transit system.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has scheduled planned work affecting subway operations, with some passengers potentially facing rerouted trains, longer waits, station bypasses or alternative transportation depending on their route. The agency maintains a live list of planned service changes and recommends checking conditions before traveling.
The disruptions are part of ongoing efforts to repair and modernize New York’s aging transit infrastructure. Construction work frequently requires the MTA to temporarily modify weekend service, when ridership is generally lower than during weekday commuting periods.
The G line has been among the routes affected by signal-modernization work in Brooklyn and Queens. Such projects are intended to replace older signaling equipment and ultimately improve reliability and train frequency.
Passengers traveling across the city this weekend are encouraged to allow additional time, check for changes before entering the subway system and consider alternative subway or bus routes where necessary.
The MTA says riders can obtain the latest information through its official service-alert system, which provides current and upcoming changes for the subway, buses, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad.
