New York City’s Summer Rising 2026 program concludes today, August 7, for public school students in grades 6 through 8, marking the end of several weeks of summer learning, enrichment and recreational activities.
The citywide initiative combines academic instruction with enrichment programs designed to keep students engaged during the summer break. Participants have had access to educational activities alongside arts, sports and other recreational opportunities.
While Friday marks the final day for middle school students in grades 6–8, Summer Rising will continue for younger participants. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are scheduled to remain in the program through August 14.
Summer Rising is operated through a partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development, with programming provided at locations across the five boroughs.
The initiative is intended to provide families with accessible summer programming while helping students maintain academic engagement and participate in social and recreational activities outside the regular school year.
With the middle school portion now ending, participating families will transition into the remaining weeks of the summer break ahead of the start of the 2026–27 school year.
