A Brooklyn man has been charged with murder following the death of his wife, a preschool teacher who was discovered with severe head injuries inside the couple’s Bay Ridge apartment.
Police arrested 47-year-old Mauricio Granda on Tuesday in connection with the death of his wife, 59-year-old Maria Ines Granda.
Authorities said concerns were raised after Maria failed to arrive at work on Monday morning. A wellness check was subsequently requested at the couple’s apartment on 79th Street.
Responding officers found Maria lying face down on a sofa with significant trauma to her head. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the killing may have taken place during the weekend, although authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive or additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Mauricio Granda was taken into custody and charged with murder. The charge remains an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue collecting evidence and establishing a timeline of events leading to Maria’s death.
