New York City police are searching for a man accused of stabbing a Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee following a confrontation on a subway platform in Times Square.
The attack occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a platform inside the busy Times Square–42nd Street subway station, according to police and local reports.
Investigators said the 30-year-old MTA cleaner confronted the man after allegedly seeing him urinate on the platform. The encounter reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the employee in the left arm before fleeing.
Emergency responders transported the injured worker to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. He was subsequently released in stable condition.
Police said the suspect was last seen boarding a southbound No. 1 train after the attack. Authorities released surveillance images as part of their effort to identify and locate him.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of transit employees, who regularly work in crowded stations and may encounter disruptive or threatening behavior while performing their duties.
MTA representatives condemned the attack and emphasized that violence against transit workers is unacceptable. The agency has repeatedly called for stronger protections for employees working throughout New York City’s subway and bus systems.
Times Square–42nd Street is among the busiest transit hubs in the city, serving several subway lines and large numbers of commuters, workers and tourists each day. An assault inside the station can also cause concern among passengers and disrupt normal operations.
The NYPD is reviewing surveillance footage and investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. No arrest had been announced at the time of reporting.
Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the incident to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline. Members of the public are advised not to approach the wanted man directly.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the individual being sought has not been convicted of any crime in connection with the incident.
