Police in Nassau County have launched a double-homicide investigation after two brothers were found fatally shot inside their family’s home in Hempstead, Long Island, on Wednesday morning.
Authorities responded to the residence on Angevine Avenue in Hempstead shortly after 10:20 a.m. on August 12, where officers discovered two men suffering from fatal gunshot wounds in the basement area of the house. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members identified the victims as Dave Adamson, 52, and Gary Adamson, 49. According to relatives, the brothers lived at the home with their parents and were part of a family of seven siblings.
The grim discovery was reportedly made after the men’s mother became concerned and sought help from her daughter. Family members subsequently discovered the brothers and contacted authorities.
Relatives and neighbors expressed shock over the killings, describing the brothers as peaceful men with strong connections to their family. One reportedly helped care for his elderly parents, while relatives said they were unaware of any dispute or circumstances that could explain why the brothers would have been targeted.
Nassau County investigators spent hours examining the property and surrounding neighborhood for evidence. Police have not publicly identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether investigators believe the brothers knew their attacker.
The killings have left the normally quiet residential neighborhood shaken as detectives work to reconstruct what happened inside the house before the victims were discovered.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or who has information connected to the deaths to contact investigators.
For now, the deaths of Dave and Gary Adamson remain under active investigation, with police attempting to determine who killed the two brothers and what motivated the deadly shooting.
