President Donald Trump announced that his administration is coordinating closely with Texas officials in response to the deadly flash floods that have claimed the lives of at least 27 people across the state.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, the president confirmed that Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will be traveling to Texas to oversee federal response efforts on the ground. “Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy,” Trump wrote. He also praised the efforts of emergency personnel, stating, “Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!”
The flooding, caused by torrential rains that overwhelmed the Guadalupe River, began Wednesday and intensified through Friday, leading to widespread devastation, particularly in Kerr County. One of the most affected areas is Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls, where 27 individuals remain unaccounted for as search and rescue operations continue.
At a Saturday morning press conference, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha confirmed the deaths of 18 adults and 9 children. Authorities have so far recovered 850 people without injuries and eight who were injured, but officials caution that these figures may increase as the search progresses. “We are working hard to locate anyone who is still missing and to ensure they’re safe,” Leitha said.
Vice President JD Vance also addressed the disaster, expressing deep condolences. “Our nation’s heart breaks for the victims in Texas and their families,” he said. “I hope everyone affected knows they’re in the prayers of my family, and of millions of Americans.”
With the death toll rising and rescue operations ongoing, both federal and local agencies are mobilizing to provide assistance and bring relief to affected communities.
