Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that he has had no communication with Iranian officials since what he described as the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities by U.S. military strikes.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I haven’t offered Iran anything, nor have I spoken to them since we destroyed their nuclear sites.” He also took the opportunity to criticize former President Barack Obama for sending billions of dollars to Tehran under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Trump withdrew from during his first term in office.
In remarks made the day before, Trump suggested Iran is now significantly weakened, saying, “They are exhausted. They’ve taken hits like no one else. We have crippled their nuclear capabilities to a point where they cannot proceed further.” While he acknowledged that Iran may not fully abandon its nuclear ambitions, he indicated that sanctions could be lifted if Tehran demonstrates a willingness to engage peacefully.
Trump did not provide any updates regarding potential changes to U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil exports to China.
However, he reiterated that any easing of sanctions would depend on Iran’s conduct, particularly its willingness to avoid hostile actions against U.S. interests. He also urged Iran to consider joining the Abraham Accords — the U.S.-led initiative for Arab-Israeli normalization — noting that recent American strikes had encouraged more countries to express interest in joining the framework.
During an interview with Fox News, Trump described the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure as highly effective. “Our aircraft delivered state-of-the-art bunker-buster bombs, designed to penetrate up to 30 floors of granite. The sites were destroyed in a way no one has seen before,” he said. Trump also pushed back against media skepticism, accusing CNN and The New York Times of spreading misinformation by suggesting the facilities were not fully destroyed.
He dismissed speculation that Iran may have hidden enriched uranium ahead of the strikes. “That would be nearly impossible and extremely risky,” he said. “Enriched uranium is very heavy. They didn’t see us coming. No one believed we’d hit those facilities, especially the Fordow site, which is buried beneath a granite mountain — but the bombs penetrated it with ease.”
Trump confirmed that all three targeted sites were “completely destroyed” and insisted there was no relocation of uranium prior to the operation.
Ahead of last week’s NATO summit in The Hague, Trump emphasized that the United States would not tolerate any Iranian attempts to enrich uranium for military purposes, reinforcing a hardline stance toward Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
