New York City and Lake Placid are exploring a joint proposal to host the 2042 Winter Olympics, following an exploratory committee’s first meeting in Manhattan on Monday.
The concept combines New York City’s arenas with Lake Placid’s winter sports facilities and experience hosting the 1932 and 1980 Games.
Transportation and housing are key challenges. No high-speed rail connects the locations, while accommodation capacity in the Adirondack region requires consideration.
Governor Kathy Hochul expressed support for the initiative. Planning remains exploratory, with no hosting award announced.
