A 60-year-old man died following an assault outside a store in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Sunday evening, police said. A 25-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder and two counts of robbery.
According to police, an argument began inside Rainbow Station, an adult retail store on Eighth Avenue, at approximately 9 p.m. The confrontation moved onto the street, where investigators allege the suspect knocked the victim down and repeatedly struck him.
Emergency medical personnel transported the injured man to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the victim’s wallet was taken during the incident, which investigators are examining as a suspected robbery.
Authorities identified the suspect as Imani McColley, 25, of Queens. Police said he initially left the scene but later returned to the area, where officers recognized him and took him into custody. The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of his family.
The investigation remains ongoing. The charges against McColley are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
