A cyclist was killed Monday morning after a dump truck struck her on West 34th Street near Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, according to New York City police.
Police said the collision occurred at about 10:51 a.m. Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Authorities described her as 50 years old but had not released her name at the time of the report.
The truck driver left the scene, police said. Officers later located and questioned the driver, but had not announced an arrest. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
The death has renewed concern about cyclist safety on New York City streets. Transportation advocates called for stronger road protections following a series of fatal crashes involving people on bicycles this year.
