A devastating two-vehicle crash on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn has left three teenagers dead and four other people hospitalized, prompting an ongoing police investigation into what caused the deadly collision.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. Tuesday on the eastbound Belt Parkway near 65th Street in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. According to police, a black Cadillac Escalade carrying five people collided with a black Honda HR-V carrying two women.
Authorities said three teenagers traveling in the Cadillac, aged 16, 17 and 18, were killed. Two were pronounced dead following the collision, while the third was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he later died from his injuries.
Two other occupants of the Cadillac, aged 16 and 18, survived and were taken to Maimonides Medical Center. Police said both were listed in stable condition.
The Honda was being driven by a 47-year-old woman and also carried a 43-year-old female passenger. Both women were transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn and were reported to be in stable condition.
The collision triggered a major emergency response and forced authorities to partially close the eastbound Belt Parkway while police, firefighters and medical crews worked at the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
Police have not announced any arrests, and investigators have yet to determine what led to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to reconstruct the events immediately preceding the crash.
The deaths of the three teenagers have turned the late-night collision into a tragedy for their families and the wider Brooklyn community, while once again drawing attention to the potentially devastating consequences of serious crashes on New York City’s high-speed roadways.
