The New York Mets secured a convincing 10–4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, using a pair of three-run doubles and a home run from Juan Soto to clinch the series.
Nick Morabito and Brett Baty delivered the most decisive hits of the game, each driving in three runs with a double as the Mets produced 14 hits and maintained control against one of the strongest teams in the American League.
Baty’s bases-clearing double formed part of an early offensive surge against Tampa Bay starter Griffin Jax. The Rays pitcher endured a difficult outing, surrendering six runs before being removed with fewer than three innings completed.
Tampa Bay attempted to close the gap and reduced New York’s advantage to 6–4. Richie Palacios provided the Rays’ biggest offensive moment with a two-run home run, giving his team a chance to regain momentum.
The Mets responded emphatically in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Morabito drove a double that scored three runners and extended New York’s lead. The hit was particularly significant for the rookie because it marked the first major-league hit of his career.
Soto added another run with a home run, strengthening a Mets attack that received contributions throughout the lineup. Bo Bichette and Carson Benge each recorded two hits as New York consistently put pressure on Tampa Bay’s pitching staff.
On the mound, Mets rookie Justin Hagenman limited the Rays to one run across three innings in his season debut. Dedniel Núñez followed with 1⅓ scoreless innings of relief and was credited with the victory.
New York’s pitchers also brought an end to Junior Caminero’s 15-game hitting streak, preventing one of Tampa Bay’s most dangerous hitters from extending his run of offensive success.
Although the Mets’ season record improved to 63–77, the series victory offered an encouraging demonstration of the team’s offensive potential. Their ability to respond after Tampa Bay narrowed the deficit proved especially important, preventing the Rays from turning the contest into a late-inning battle.
Tampa Bay fell to 83–56 despite remaining among the American League’s leading teams. The Rays showed signs of a comeback but could not overcome the early deficit or contain New York’s late scoring surge.
For the Mets, the 10-run performance combined timely hitting, productive at-bats and effective work from the bullpen. Morabito’s breakthrough hit, Baty’s early contribution and Soto’s power ultimately ensured a memorable series-clinching victory.
