New York City police have launched an investigation after a woman’s body was discovered inside a container near Plumb Beach in Brooklyn.

Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived at a parking area near the beach, located off the Belt Parkway. They found the woman unresponsive inside a container, and emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

The woman’s identity has not yet been released, pending formal identification and notification of her family. Authorities have also not disclosed her approximate age or provided information about how long the body may have been at the location.

Investigators secured the area and collected evidence as they began examining the circumstances surrounding the discovery. The body was later transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will conduct an examination to determine the cause and manner of death.

Plumb Beach is a relatively isolated waterfront area near Sheepshead Bay and forms part of the Gateway National Recreation Area. Its location and surrounding open spaces are expected to be examined as detectives work to establish how the body reached the parking lot.

Police have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects in connection with the case. They have also not confirmed whether the woman’s death is being treated as a homicide.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information that could help identify the woman or clarify the circumstances of her death to contact the New York City Police Department.
