Authorities have identified the woman found dead inside a trash can near Plumb Beach in Brooklyn as Tanaya Campbell Ortiz, 38, of Queens. The cause of her death remains under investigation.
Ortiz was discovered on September 16 in a parking area near the Belt Parkway in Sheepshead Bay. Police said someone called 911 shortly after 3 p.m. to report an unresponsive woman. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators have not announced how Ortiz died or disclosed the circumstances that led to her body being found in the container. Police continue to investigate, and the medical examiner’s findings are expected to help determine the cause of death.
