Police on Long Island have arrested a man after a search of a Long Beach residence uncovered a cache of firearms, ammunition, suspected drugs and thousands of dollars in cash, authorities said.
The Long Beach Police Department said investigators executed a search warrant at a home on East Hudson Street as part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking. Officers reported finding multiple firearms, including handguns and what authorities described as an assault-style weapon, along with ammunition.
Investigators also recovered significant quantities of suspected narcotics. According to police, the substances included fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and other drugs, raising particular concern because of the potentially lethal risks associated with fentanyl.
Authorities said approximately $15,000 in cash was also seized during the operation. Police believe the combination of drugs, weapons and money is connected to suspected narcotics distribution.
The suspect, identified by authorities as Michael D. Brown, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges related to criminal possession of controlled substances and weapons. The allegations remain subject to the court process, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Police described the seizure as significant because firearms and potentially deadly narcotics were allegedly being kept inside a residential neighborhood. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the case and whether other individuals may have been involved.
The operation comes as law-enforcement agencies across Long Island continue efforts to combat illegal drug distribution, particularly substances containing fentanyl, which has played a major role in overdose deaths across New York and the United States.
Authorities have urged residents to report suspected drug trafficking or other criminal activity to local police as the investigation continues.
