A violent stabbing incident inside Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan left six people injured on Monday, triggering a major police response and raising fresh security concerns in one of New York City’s busiest transportation hubs.
According to preliminary reports from the New York Police Department, the attack took place during the afternoon rush period inside the station complex near several commuter platforms. Witnesses described scenes of panic as passengers attempted to flee the area while emergency responders rushed to assist the injured.
Authorities confirmed that six victims sustained injuries during the incident, with one person reported to be in serious condition. The remaining victims suffered varying injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police stated that a suspect was quickly taken into custody at the scene, though investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack.
Penn Station, which serves hundreds of thousands of commuters daily through Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit services, experienced temporary disruptions following the incident as law enforcement secured the area and conducted investigations.
The stabbing occurred only hours before New York City was set to host a major NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, located directly above the station complex. Security measures around the arena and surrounding streets were significantly increased following the attack, with additional NYPD officers deployed throughout Midtown Manhattan.
City officials urged residents and visitors to remain calm while emphasizing that there was no ongoing threat to the public. Transportation services gradually resumed later in the evening, although delays continued on several lines due to the police investigation.
The incident has reignited discussions over public safety and security enforcement in major transit centers across New York City, particularly during large-scale public events that attract massive crowds into Manhattan.
