New York City police are investigating a horrifying sexual assault that took place late at night in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, where a man allegedly broke into a woman’s home, tied her up, and assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

According to law enforcement sources, the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked window at around 2:30 a.m. The victim, who was asleep at the time, awoke to find the intruder pressing a pillow over her face to stifle her screams. He then tied her wrists with a cord and sexually assaulted her inside her bedroom.

After the attack, the assailant stole the woman’s phone and wristwatch before escaping on foot. The victim was able to free herself and contact police shortly after. She was later treated at a nearby hospital for trauma and minor injuries.

Detectives from the NYPD Special Victims Unit are leading the investigation. Surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Community leaders in Bushwick have condemned the attack, calling for increased patrols and better lighting in residential blocks that have seen a rise in nighttime burglaries.

The NYPD described the suspect as a male in his 30s, last seen wearing dark clothing and a hoodie. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
