Two Police Officers Killed, Deputy Injured in Tremonton, Utah Shooting

A tragic shooting in Tremonton, Utah, has left two police officers dead and a sheriff’s deputy injured, according to officials.

The Incident

The confrontation began late Sunday night, August 17, when an officer with the Tremonton Garland Police Department responded to a disturbance call at a residence. While speaking to someone inside the home, a man allegedly emerged with a firearm and shot the officer, killing him instantly.

A second officer who arrived to assist was also shot and killed when the suspect opened fire again, police reported.

Deputy and K-9 Targeted

The third responder, a deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the scene with a service dog. According to investigators, the suspect fired multiple rounds into the deputy’s vehicle, striking both the deputy and the dog. They were taken to a hospital and veterinary clinic for treatment.

Suspect Arrested

The gunman, whose identity has not been released, was eventually persuaded by bystanders to put down his weapon. He was taken into custody on aggravated murder charges.

Community Reaction

Brigham Police Detective Crystal Beck confirmed that the officers had stopped responding to radio calls after requesting backup, leading to heightened concerns during the standoff.

In a statement, the Brigham Police Department described the loss as a devastating blow:

“Tragedies like these rock an entire community, state, and even nation. These officers and their families served theirs every day, and they will forever be remembered as heroes.”

The identities of the two fallen officers have not yet been released as the community mourns their sacrifice.
