Trump Nominates State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce as Deputy U.S. Representative to the UN

President Donald Trump has announced his nomination of State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to serve as the next U.S. deputy representative to the United Nations.

Bruce, who has held her current post since Trump took office in January, will require Senate confirmation for the new role. Republicans hold the majority in the chamber, potentially easing her path to approval.

In an August 9 social media post, Trump praised Bruce’s performance, calling her tenure as State Department spokesperson “fantastic.” Bruce has frequently defended the administration’s foreign policy decisions, including its immigration enforcement measures, visa revocations, and responses to Russia’s war in Ukraine and Israel’s war in Gaza. She has also addressed the administration’s defense of a controversial armed private aid operation in Gaza.

Before joining the State Department, Bruce spent more than two decades as a political commentator and contributor for Fox News. She is also the author of several books critical of liberal policies, including Fear Itself: Exposing the Left’s Mind-Killing Agenda.

Following Trump’s announcement, Bruce expressed gratitude and said she expects to begin the role “in the next few weeks,” though no specific timeline has been confirmed. “My commitment to advancing America First leadership and values continues on the global stage in this new post,” she wrote on X.

Bruce will serve under Mike Waltz, Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Waltz, a former White House national security adviser, is also awaiting Senate confirmation. He was removed from his advisory role on May 1 after being linked to a March scandal involving a private Signal chat among senior Trump national security aides discussing military strikes in Yemen.

If confirmed, Bruce will step into one of the most high-profile diplomatic positions in the administration at a time of heightened global tensions and contentious U.S. foreign policy debates.
