Trump Says He Still Feels Effects of Assassination Attempt, Calls Presidency ‘a Dangerous Business’

President Donald Trump revealed that he continues to experience physical reminders of the assassination attempt on his life nearly a year ago, describing a lingering sensation in his ear as a stark symbol of the dangers that come with his role.

“I get that throbbing feeling every once in a while,” Trump told reporters on June 27, referring to the July 2024 shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was injured during a campaign event. The incident, which shocked the nation, marked one of several known attempts on Trump’s life during the 2024 election cycle.

Trump previously mentioned the sensation at a campaign rally held shortly before his inauguration, saying, “I still have that throbbing feeling in my ear.” He also brought it up in a Fox News interview last month, while discussing threats tied to foreign adversaries and domestic extremists.

The former president cited ongoing investigations into at least two foiled plots to assassinate him last year. Though he did not elaborate on the suspects, law enforcement agencies have continued to treat threats against Trump with elevated concern amid heightened political tensions.

Link to U.S.-Iran Conflict

In the same Fox News appearance, Trump pivoted from the topic of Lebanon and Hezbollah—an Iranian-backed militant group—to the dangers he faces as president, especially following U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The strikes, conducted in June, triggered a retaliatory attack on a U.S. military base and fueled speculation about further Iranian reprisals.

While tensions have eased following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, Trump emphasized the seriousness of his responsibilities and the inherent risk.

“This is a dangerous business,” he said. “What I do is a dangerous business.”

Ongoing Security Concerns

The president’s remarks underscore the security challenges faced by high-profile political figures, particularly in volatile geopolitical environments. Former and current U.S. officials have warned that global threats, from state actors to lone extremists, have become increasingly unpredictable.

While Trump continues to campaign and govern, the ear injury he sustained during the Butler shooting serves as a physical and symbolic reminder of the personal cost of his political leadership.
